Introduction
As a media specialist, you work with a variety of programmes on a daily basis – from Adobe software and Office to open-source tools. However, software is always subject to a specific licence, which sets out how you are permitted to use it. This also applies to whether you are allowed to use or distribute the works you have created for commercial purposes.
To ensure you act in accordance with the law, you need to know what rights and obligations are associated with each licence model.
Assignment
- Examine at least two of the following software products or licence types and answer the questions relating to each one:
- Adobe Creative Cloud (z. B. Photoshop)
- Canva
- Visual Studio Code
- Figma
- Answer to following questions:
- Under which licence is the tool available?
- Am I allowed to use the software freely (for personal or commercial purposes)?
- Am I allowed to copy or share the software?
- Am I allowed to use or sell works created with this software commercially?
- Are there any restrictions on distribution or publication (e.g. online content, social media, websites)?
